Our Hotel |
I am really sorry if some of you don't understand everything.
Our Hotel |
New Orleans was totally different to any other city I've ever been before. It's like a mix of Europe and America but at the same time totally different. I can't really compare it to anything. Honestly I don't think I can really explain it. I just recommend everybody that has the possibilty to visit New Orleans to take this change.
We arrived in New Orleans on friday night after an almost 9-hour car ride. Our hotel was in the famous French Quarter. The French Quarter is the oldest neighborhood in the city.
After checking-in in our really cute hotel we decided to walk around a little bit and look for a place to eat. The houses are just adorable. They are really small and really old. Not far behind the houses you can see in total contrast the skyscrapers. The French Quarter by night is so full of people that some streets are closed in the evening and no car can get through . There are a lot of clubs and bars. Most of the time you can hear the music even outside on the streets because most of them don't have a doors or if they have, they're really big and open. Actually here in New Orleans I saw people drinking in public for the first time since I am in the United States. I also saw a few Drag Queens.
After
having an amazing dinner, we went back to our hotel.
On
the
next morning we went to the famous Cafe du Monde and honestly I
have no idea why it's famous. It was totally crazy. There were many
small plastic tables in a really small space. Around these really
small tables were more chairs than actually could fit. Everything
looked really cheap, but the place was packed with peoples. Outside was
an enormous line of people waiting to get a table. We didn't
saw the line until we left again, so we just went in the Cafe and
took a table that just got free. You would think because it's so
famous there would be a lot to choose between or atleast one really
good think. But there were maybe 6 things on the card, of which two
were beignet mix that you can take home with you so you can make it
yourself. Still it was an interesting experience.
After
this we had tickets for a tour on a steamboat on the Mississippi river. From the boat we had an amazing view on the skyline of New
Orleans. After the boat tour we went to the city park. Therefore we
had to take a streetcar (it's similar to a „Straßenbahn“).
The
city park was on the other side of the city, so on the drive we saw a
lot of New Orleans. In the center is a long street with casinos,
movie theaters and shops. A lot of interesting and strange people were walking
around in New Orleans. There also were a lot of crazy cars. Some of
them were in gold or other strange colors and they had this really
big wheels in the front, like you sometimes see in movies (StepUp,
Fast&Furious).
The city park is huge, I don't think we even saw
all of it. But the part we saw was beautiful. There were many lakes surrounded by really big trees and different colored flowers. We went in the
botanical garden, which was just beautiful. On our way back to our
hotel it got dark again, and the streets were crowded by
people and cars. You could hear music from almost everywhere. It was
just amazing, I've never seen a city life like this.
Unfortunately we had to leave again the next morning. After two flights we finally
came back to california.
Totally...jealous...
